    Dorothy Knight             Matt Lamport

  Ginge Neal

Dorothy came to Woking Homes in her own right being an employee on the railway for a total of 22 years.  Her husband also worked on the railway in the Area Managers Office at Croydon.  Dorothy started off as a relief typist and then progressed to the Divisional Manager's Office as typist in Croydon.  She was then promoted to the Area Manager's Secretary in Brighton.  Dorothy participates in nearly all the activities on offer at Woking Homes and asked what she thought of the home she said "she liked it very much".

Matt had often come to Woking Homes to give lectures to young railway workers during his long career of 44 years on the railway, he didn't expect to one day be living here.  Matt started his career as a junior porter at Liphook, he had a break during the war and then was back on the railways at Liphook.  Matt progressed to signalman and from there he went on to be station master at various stations including Acting Station Master at Guildford finishng as Station Master at Haslemere where he was responsible for all stations from Rowlands Castle to Farncombe.  Matt retired in 1984 moving to Devon to allow his wife to finally put down roots.  Matt is very social at Woking Homes joining in all activites, asked how he felt living in the home he said with his usual big smile "I never regretted coming here, everyone is nice and we have a good laugh".

Ginge had a long career on the railway at Ashford and he retired in 1976.  Ginge has just celebrated his 102nd birthday and is still the bright person he was when coming to Woking Homes with his wife in 1993.  Sadly his wife is nolonger with us but Ginge says that Woking Homes is very good and he is happy and comfortable.
